Upgrade Your Breakfast Game with this Easy Purple Sweet Potato Ube Cinnamon Roll Hack

Breakfast is called the most important meal of the day for a reason. Yet, it often gets reduced to a quick bite on the go. Imagine instead, upgrading those store-bought cinnamon rolls into an enticing breakfast that pleases the eyes as much as the palate. This is where the Purple Sweet Potato Ube Cinnamon Roll hack comes into play. This simple recipe turns everyday ingredients into a colorful and delicious breakfast option that will impress your guests, your family,—and yourself—when you need a little pampering with minimal effort for those lazy weekend mornings (or evenings, they taste just as great for dessert). This is a minimum effort, maximum result kind of recipe.

Let's explore this straightforward and delightful recipe that merges the classic flavors of cinnamon and purple sweet potato for an unforgettable breakfast.

Ingredients You'll Need:

Here’s what you’ll need to create these delightful cinnamon rolls:

  • 1 can of store-bought cinnamon rolls

  • 2 packs of our purple sweet potato ube puree

  • 1 cup of heavy cream

  • 1 Tbsp powdered sugar

  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar

  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon

  • 1 Tbsp melted butter

Directions:

Unroll and Prep

Start by gently unrolling the cinnamon rolls lengthwise. This is where the fun really begins!

Next, cut the corner of the ube puree pouch using scissors. This will make it easy to pipe the vibrant purple puree onto the unrolled dough. Spray a spatula or knife with nonstick spray and spread the puree evenly over the dough on top of the cinnamon mixture.

Once spread, roll the dough back into its original shape and place on your baking tray. Be sure to leave about two inches of space between each roll on your tray for even cooking.

Mixing It Up

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and mix in the brown sugar and cinnamon. This sweet mix will create a caramelized topping that makes the rolls even more irresistible.

Preheat your oven to 340°F (170°C). While waiting, take half a pack of the purple potato ube puree and blend it with one cup of heavy cream. After well combined, pour this luscious mixture over the cinnamon rolls, ensuring every roll gets coated. The extra moisture will cause the cinnamon rolls to grow in size giving them a homemade look and taste.

Baking Perfection

Now it's time to add the delicious brown sugar mixture. Generously spoon it over each roll. Cover the tray with aluminum foil and bake for 20-25 minutes. The dough should be fully cooked, with a soft and fluffy texture.

As you wait, the delicious aroma will fill your kitchen, letting you know it's getting close to ready.

Frosting with a Twist

While the rolls are in the oven, prepare the frosting. Take the frosting packet that comes with your cinnamon rolls and divide it into two portions (we like using the cream cheese version).

In one bowl, combine half of the frosting with half a pack of purple sweet potato ube puree. This creates a vibrant purple frosting that will add a fun twist to your rolls. You can always add more puree if a stronger flavor or color is desired, we only used 1/2 a pack.

For the second half, mix it with half a cup of heavy cream in a jar. Use an electric whisk to whip until soft peaks form for a light, airy topping.

If you're short on time you can skip the whipped cream and simply mix the full container of frosting with 1 full packet of purple sweet potato puree.

Finishing Touches

Once the rolls have finished baking and cooled slightly, it’s time to decorate them. Add dollops of your freshly whipped cream on top and drizzle the purple frosting generously over each roll, allowing it to cascade down the sides. Then, wow your guests with your "homemade" purple cinnamon rolls, we won't tell.
